Project #2
- The basic idea of this piece is a sound box for two mini speakers that has an attached I-phone holder. I built this box to help concentrate the the output sound of the two speakers, and to hold my I- Phone while I use it. Be fore this box these speakers were a hassel to carry around while I skated around campus, the box that I created amplifies the speakers, and makes it easier to use on the go.
- When the viewer experiences this piece, I intended for them to make the connection of a retro boombox. I tried to give it the basic feel of a boombox, with the I- phone holder in front. Although for this project I focused more on the functionality of the piece.
- Some design decisions I made to achieve the boom box look was the rectange shape, the placement of the speakers, and the handle on top.
- The material choice wasn't really my choice because the project required we used wood, but I did use some other materials. I used the rubber phone case I order to secure the phone in the wooden holder, and I used the plexi glass so you could see the guts of the peice, and expose my solution to turning the two individual speakers on and off from the outside.
- I learned alot during this project because I've never made something out of wood before. This was a great experience, and I learned how much I love working with this material.
- If I did this project again, I would focus more on smaller details like covering nail holes, and putting a finish on before the critique.
