- Jane Alexander is a South African artist who creates uneasy sculptures of mutated human like beings. She also likes to incorporate creepy ass animal heads, and other animal features. Although I find her style very intriguing, and very interesting to spend time observing.
The Butcher Boys
- This is a plaster sculpture of three human like creatures that have strange animal qualities such as ram horns. She also gives these figures black eyes, bloody holes where their ears should be,and pasty white skin that covers their mouths.
- "The artwork represents the brutal dehumanizing forces of Apartheid in South Africa. The animal parts show how people stripped themselves of their humanity and put themselves above others, thinking they were better."
- Although a little creepy these demon like creatures intrigue me. Bom Boys
- "The 'Bom Boys' - the title is taken from gang graffiti, and Alexander's interpretations of those street children. Departing from her earlier practice, all the figures in this group are cast in fibre glass from a single mould, the animal masks which cover the heads differentiating between the figures. A new series of photomontages completes the exhibition."
- In this piece she creates five fancy children, with animal heads. In my opinion this portrays five children that are forced to leave their animal like childhood, and conform to what society wants them to be.
Closing Thoughts
- I love her creative style and her ability to create eye catching work, work that one must spend tim looking at and absorb.
- Overall I really enjoy Jane Alexanders art, because the way she combines animal and human features is something I have tampered with in art that I have done in the past. It is cool to see it done so successfully.

Themes
- All of the pictures that I captured of a 3D curved lines, I chose these curved objects because naturally I am attracted to curves. Some of the pictures that I took are natural 3D curves, such as the mountains, warped wood, the ski slopes, tree branches, and so on . On the other hand there are man made curves such as the fire hydrants, poles, cement paths, corn dogs, and so on. These
Possible Artistic Ramifications
- I can use the comfortable curves that one finds in nature and incorporate that into my art, such as mimicking the curves of a mountain, or a tree branch.
- Or intend of mimicking, I could use the object itself.
